Juvenile Northern Shoveler

Fall migration is one of my favourite times of year – I explored a fresh water pond today and was thrilled to see nine juvenile Northern Shovelers. They resemble  

 female Mallards in plumage but it’s their incredible ‘shovel’ beaks that set them apart.
